Teams
Create teams, add and remove their members, and delete teams you no longer need.
A team is a named group of members — a department, a squad, a client account team. Teams let you refer to a group of people as one thing, for example when granting access or routing an approval, instead of naming each person every time.
Where teams live#
Open SettingsTeams. Each team appears as a card with its name, its description (if it has one), the people in it and a picker for adding more. In the Everyrealm demo organization you will find teams such as Executive, Investments and Portfolio.
Who can use it#
Permissions
team.viewteam.createteam.manageteam.deleteteam.view shows the tab. team.create creates a team, team.manage adds and removes members, and team.delete deletes a team. The built-in Member role holds team.view and team.create; Organization Owner and Organization Admin hold all four.A permission can be narrowed with a scope. For example, a custom “Team lead” role can hold team.manage with the scope Their own records, so a lead runs only the teams they created or manage. See permission scopes.
Create a team#
Open the Teams tab
Go to SettingsTeams.Choose New team
The Create a team dialog opens.Name it
Name is required. Description is optional and is shown under the name on the team card.Choose Create team
The team appears in the list with no members yet.
Add and remove members#
Pick a person
On the team’s card, open Add a member…. It lists only members of the organization who are not already in this team.Choose Add
The person appears in the team’s member list straight away.Remove someone
Select the small × beside their name. This removes them from the team only; they stay a member of the organization.
Note
Delete a team#
Choose Delete on the team’s card. The team is deleted immediately — there is no confirmation step — and its member list goes with it. The people themselves are not affected.
Warning
What this screen does not show#
A team can also record a manager and a label for each member’s role in the team. Those are set through the UnitX API; the Teams tab shows names, descriptions and members only. Team names and descriptions cannot currently be edited from this screen either — to rename a team, create a new one and move the members across.
Tips#
- Name teams after how people talk about them (“Investor Relations”, not “IR-2”), because the name is what appears wherever a team is chosen.
- Teams do not grant permissions by themselves. What a person can do still comes from their role; a team is a way to point at a group.
Can someone be in more than one team?
Yes. A member can belong to as many teams as you like.
Why can I see the Teams tab but not the New team button work?
Viewing teams needs team.view; creating one needs team.create. If creating fails with a permission error, ask an administrator for the second.
Does deleting a team remove its people from the organization?
No. Only the team and its membership list are deleted.
