Organization settings

A tour of Settings: every tab, who can see it, and where organization-wide controls such as required two-factor authentication live.

Settings is where an organization is run from: who belongs to it, what each person may do, how people sign in, and how UnitX presents your organization to the outside world. Most of it is for administrators, but a few tabs — your notifications, what you follow, your security and your language — belong to every member.

Opening Settings#

Choose Settings at the bottom of the sidebar. The entry appears for anyone who holds member.view, which every built-in role except Guest includes. The page always opens on Members; the other tabs sit in a row across the top.

You only see the tabs your role allows. An Organization Owner or Organization Admin sees all of them; a Member sees the personal tabs and a handful of read-only ones. If a tab described below is missing, you do not hold the permission that shows it — ask an administrator.

Permissions

Needed to see Settings in the sidebar. Individual tabs need further permissions, listed in the table below.

The tabs, and who sees them#

People and access#

Members#

The list of everyone in the organization, with each person’s role and status. From here you invite people (including contractors and clients from outside the organization), change a person’s role, sign them out of every device, suspend or reactivate them, and remove them. Pending invitations are listed underneath. See Members and invitations and External collaborators.

Teams#

Groups of members — a department, a squad, a client team — that other parts of UnitX can refer to, for example when granting access or routing approvals. See Teams.

Roles#

The five built-in roles (Organization Owner, Organization Admin, Member, Viewer and Guest) and any custom roles you create. A custom role is a named set of permissions, and each permission can be narrowed to a person’s own records, their direct reports or their department. See Roles and permissions.

Service accounts#

Identities for scripts and integrations that should not run under a person’s account. A service account holds a role like anyone else, and disabling it stops all of its API keys at once. See Service accounts and API keys.

Single sign-on#

Three numbered sub-tabs, in the order the work has to happen: 1. Domains (prove you own your email domain), 2. Identity provider (connect SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect and, once it works, require it) and 3. Provisioning (let your identity provider create and deactivate members through SCIM). Organization-wide settings#

Branding#

A primary and accent colour, a font and a footer line, used wherever your organization appears to people outside it — public forms, shared document pages, exported reports. See Branding.

Support access#

Lets you grant the UnitX support team access to your organization for a fixed number of minutes (up to 24 hours), see who claimed it, and revoke it early. See Support access.

Search & events#

Shows whether the events behind notifications, email and live updates are being delivered, lets you retry ones that failed, and shows whether search can find everything that exists. See Search and events settings.

Reality and Deck templates#

Reality holds the organization-wide settings for comparing plans with what actually happens (see Reality). Deck templates holds your organization’s own slide templates (see Presentations).

Work configuration#

Custom fields, Tags, Work item types and Saved views shape how work is recorded across every project. They are described with the work features they affect: Tags and custom fields, Work item types and Saved views.

Your personal tabs#

Four tabs are about you rather than the organization, and every member sees them:

Notifications — see Notification preferences.
Following — see Following and watching.
Security — see Passwords and email, Two-factor authentication, Passkeys and Sessions and login history.
Language & region — see Language and region.

Requiring two-factor authentication for everyone#

At the bottom of the Security tab, administrators see a section called Require it of everyone here. Turning it on means nobody can work in this organization until they have set up an authenticator app or a passkey.

Set up a factor on your own account first
In SettingsSecurity, add an authenticator app or a passkey. UnitX refuses to switch the requirement on for someone who has neither, because it would lock you out immediately.
Turn on the switch
Under Require it of everyone here, switch it on. The confirmation tells you how many members do not have two-factor authentication yet, or that everyone already has it.
Let people know
Members without a factor keep their membership. The next time they try to do anything in this organization they are told: This organization requires two-factor authentication. Set it up on your account to continue.

Note

The requirement applies to people. It does not apply to API keys or service accounts, whose protection is the scopes and role they carry.

Why can I not see Settings in the sidebar?

The entry needs member.view. Guests do not hold it by default. Ask an administrator if you need to reach your own notification or security settings.

Why is a tab missing for me but not for a colleague?

Tabs follow permissions, not job titles. Compare your roles on the Members tab; the table above lists the permission behind each tab.

Where do I change the plan or the number of seats?

In Billing in the sidebar, not in Settings. See Billing and plans.
