Reports

Save analytics queries as reports, choose who can see them, and run them against current data.

A report is a saved analytics query: a name, a metric and who can see it. Save one when you find yourself asking the same question again and again, like “what is our win rate?” or “how many hours were logged?”, and run it against current data whenever you need the answer.

Where to find it#

Open Dashboards and select Reports at the top right. Back to dashboards returns you to the dashboards list.

Who can use it#

Permissions

dashboard.viewdashboard.manage
dashboard.view lets you see and run reports. dashboard.manage lets you save, duplicate and delete them.

Who can see a report#

  • Everyone: every member with dashboard.view can see and run it.
  • Only me: only you can see it. It shows a Private badge.

Only a report’s owner can change or delete it, even when everyone can see it. That way one person’s saved query can’t be quietly pointed at a different metric while others keep trusting its name. To adapt someone else’s report, duplicate it.

Save a report#

  1. Name it

In the form at the bottom of the page, enter a Name.

  2. Choose a type

Pick a Type: summary, trend, distribution, table, time or workload. The type describes the report and helps people find it. How results are displayed is decided by the metric.

  3. Choose who can see it

Set Who can see it to Everyone (the default) or Only me.

  4. Describe it (optional)

Add a Description (optional) so others know what the report is for.

  5. Pick the metric

Choose a Metric. Its description appears underneath. The metrics are the same as for dashboard widgets; see the metric reference.

  6. Save it

Select Save report. It appears at the top of the list.

Metrics that need a project

Reports can’t set filters on this page. Work items — cycle time, Work items — lead time and Sprints — velocity trend need a project, so a report using them shows an error when run. The page warns you when you pick one. Use a dashboard widget for those metrics instead.

Run a report#

Select a report to expand it. UnitX runs its query against current data and shows the result in the same form as a dashboard widget. Results always reflect only the records you are allowed to see. Select the report again to collapse it.

Duplicate or delete a report#

Expand a report to see its buttons:

  • Duplicate creates a copy that you own, which you can then change.
  • Delete removes the report permanently. Only the owner can delete it.

Limitations#

  • Reports can’t be exported or delivered by email on a schedule. A report is a query you run on this page.
  • Filters, grouping and date ranges can’t be set on this page.
  • A report can’t be edited here. Save a new one and delete the old one.

Questions#

Should I use a report or a dashboard?

Use a dashboard for numbers you want to see side by side all the time, with filters. Use a report for a single question you run occasionally.

My report shows an error when I expand it.

Its metric most likely needs a project filter, which reports can’t set. Add the metric to a dashboard instead.

A colleague can’t find my report.

Check whether it has the Private badge. Private reports are visible only to you; save a new one with Everyone, or duplicate and delete.
