Notification preferences

Choose which notifications reach you by email or in the app, get summaries, set quiet hours, and set organization policies.

SettingsNotifications decides which notifications reach you, on which channel, and how often. You can turn individual notifications off, get email summaries instead of a stream of messages, and hold non-urgent notifications overnight with quiet hours. Administrators can also set defaults and fixed rules for the whole organization.

Who can use it#

Permissions

notification.viewnotification.manage
Every member holds these for their own settings.

Permissions

organization.manage
Needed for the Organization policy section.

Your settings are per organization: turning something off in one organization changes nothing in another.

Turn notifications on or off#

The table under What you are told about has one row per kind of notification (see what sends a notification) and one column per channel you can receive: In app and Email. Everything is on until you turn it off.

  1. Find the row

For example, “Someone comments on your work”.

  2. Flip the switch for the channel

Turning off Email stops the email; the notification still appears in the app. The change saves immediately.

Switches you can’t change#

  • Rows marked Always sent, such as invitations and decisions an automated agent needs from you, are fixed on.
  • A switch your organization has fixed shows the rule beneath it, for example “Always on (cannot be changed) — set by your organization”.
  • Security notices (a password change, a session ending, a change to single sign-on) are always sent and aren’t listed.

Get summaries instead#

Next to each email switch is a frequency picker. Choose:

  • As it happens: one email per notification (the default);
  • Hourly summary, Daily summary or Weekly summary: notifications are collected and sent as one email;
  • Never: no email for that notification.

In-app notifications have no frequency; they always appear as they happen. The difference between Never and switching email off is that turning the switch back on restores the summary schedule you had.

Quiet hours#

  1. Turn on Quiet hours

Use the switch in the Quiet hours section.

  2. Set From and Until

Enter a start and end time. A window that runs overnight, such as 22:00 until 07:00, is normal; the page confirms it starts in the evening and ends the next morning.

  3. Choose Save quiet hours

    You’ll see “Quiet hours updated”.

  • Quiet hours use your own time zone, from Language & region.
  • Held is not dropped: in-app notifications still appear straight away, and held emails arrive when quiet hours end.
  • Notifications marked critical and security notices still come through during quiet hours.

Product news and announcements#

A separate switch controls product updates, the newsletter and new feature announcements. Turning it off never stops a security or account message.

Organization policy (administrators)#

The Organization policy section sets rules for everyone in the organization.

  1. Choose a Notification

A single kind of notification, or Every notification.

  2. Choose a Channel

    In app or Email.

  3. Choose a Rule and save

Pick one of the rules below and choose Save policy. Saved policies are listed underneath, each with Remove.

RuleEffect
On by defaultOn for members who haven’t chosen; they can still turn it off.
Off by defaultOff for members who haven’t chosen; they can still turn it on.
Always on (cannot be changed)On for everyone; the switch is locked.
Always off (cannot be changed)Off for everyone; the switch is locked.

Note

A policy can’t turn off security and account notifications.

Frequently asked questions#

Why is a switch greyed out?

It’s either a notification that is always sent, or your organization has fixed it. The text beside or under the switch says which.

Why aren’t push or SMS offered?

Only channels UnitX can actually deliver are shown, so there’s never a switch that does nothing.

I set quiet hours. Do I lose what happened overnight?

No. It’s in the app straight away, and emails arrive when quiet hours end.

Still stuck? Search the docs with ⌘K, open Help inside UnitX, or contact support.
