Passwords and email

Change your password, reset a forgotten one, and confirm your email address.

This page covers the three things you might do with your password and email address: change your password while signed in, reset a password you have forgotten, and confirm your email address so that resets and notifications reach you.

Password rules#

  • At least 12 characters (your UnitX installation may set a different minimum; the form always shows the current one) and at most 200.
  • Passwords found on published lists of leaked passwords are refused, whatever symbols they contain.
  • There is no rule about capitals, digits or symbols, and passwords don’t expire. A phrase of several words is strong and easy to remember.
  • A new password must be different from your current one.

Nobody, including administrators, can see or set your password. Accounts that sign in through single sign-on don’t have a UnitX password.

Change your password#

  1. Open Security

Go to SettingsSecurity. The Password section is at the top.

  2. Enter your current password

Current password is required even though you are signed in, so that someone using your unlocked computer can’t lock you out of your own account.

  3. Enter the new password twice

Fill in New password and Type it again. If they differ you’ll see “The two passwords do not match”.

  4. Choose Change password

This device stays signed in and every other device is signed out. The message tells you how many, for example “Password changed. 2 other devices were signed out.”

Reset a forgotten password#

  1. Choose Forgot it?

On the sign-in page, choose Forgot it? next to the Password label.

  2. Enter your email and choose Send the link

You’ll see Check your email. The page says the same thing whether or not the address has an account, so it can’t be used to find out who has one.

  3. Open the link in the email

The link works once and expires after an hour. Asking for another link makes the earlier one stop working.

  4. Choose a new password

On Choose a new password, enter it in New password and Type it again, then choose Set the new password.

  5. Sign in again

A reset signs out every device, including the one you’re using. Sign in with the new password.

If the link is incomplete, expired or already used, the page says This link cannot be used. Choose Ask for a new link.

Confirm your email address#

When you create your account, UnitX emails a link to confirm your address. Opening it shows Confirming your address… and then Address confirmed. Choose Continue to go to the app.

  • The confirmation link works once and expires after 24 hours.
  • Resetting your password also confirms your address, because opening a link sent there proves you can read it. If your confirmation link has expired, this is the way to confirm it.
  • When your address is confirmed, Email verified appears in your login history.

Make your account harder to take over

A strong password is only the first step. Add two-factor authentication or a passkey so a stolen password isn’t enough to get in.

Frequently asked questions#

I asked for a reset and nothing arrived.

Check your spam folder. If you typed an address that isn’t on the account, no email was sent; choose “try another address”. If your company signs you in through single sign-on, there is no UnitX password to reset.

Why was my password refused?

Either it was shorter than the minimum shown on the form, or it appears on lists of leaked passwords, which are the first ones attackers try.

Why was I signed out everywhere?

Your password was reset. Sessions opened with the old password are ended, which is the only way a reset helps if someone else was signed in.

Can I change the email address on my account?

Not from the app at the moment. Contact an administrator of your organization.
