Signing in
Sign in with a password, a passkey or single sign-on, complete the two-factor step, and what to do when sign-in is paused.
You can sign in to UnitX with your email and password, with a passkey, or through your company’s identity provider if your organization uses single sign-on. If your account has two-factor authentication, UnitX asks for your second factor after your password.
Sign in with email and password#
Open the sign-in page
The page is titled Welcome back: “Sign in to your UnitX workspace”.
Enter your email and password
Forgotten your password? Choose Forgot it? next to the Password label. See Passwords and email.
Choose Sign in
If you belong to an organization you go straight into the app, in your organization. If you don’t belong to any yet, you go to the setup screen to create or join one.
The two-factor step#
If your account has two-factor authentication or a passkey set up as a second factor, the page changes to Two-factor authentication once your password is accepted. What it asks for depends on what your account has:
- Authenticator app: enter the six-digit code in Authentication code and choose Verify. Codes change every 30 seconds. One of your recovery codes works here too, once.
- Passkey or security key: choose Use a passkey and confirm on your device.
If a code is rejected, the field clears so you can try again without re-entering your password. Choose Use a different account to go back to the first step.
Sign in with a passkey#
If your browser supports passkeys, the sign-in page shows Sign in with a passkey below the form. Choose it and confirm with your fingerprint, face or device PIN. You don’t type an email or password: the passkey identifies your account. While you confirm, the button shows “Waiting for your device…”. Closing the prompt simply cancels.
Only a passkey that can verify it’s you (with a fingerprint, face or PIN) can sign you in on its own. See Passkeys.
Sign in with single sign-on#
If your organization has connected UnitX to its identity provider (such as Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace), sign in from your identity provider, for example from your company’s app launcher. UnitX receives your identity from the provider and signs you in.
- If your organization requires single sign-on for your email domain, the password form is refused with “This domain requires single sign-on. Sign in through your identity provider.”
- Accounts created through single sign-on have no UnitX password, so a password reset doesn’t apply to them.
- The first time you sign in with single sign-on using an address that already has a UnitX account, the link between the two has to be confirmed; it isn’t taken over automatically.
Administrators set this up as described in Single sign-on.
When your organization requires two-factor authentication#
If an organization you belong to requires two-factor authentication and your account has no second factor, you see This organization requires two-factor authentication instead of the app. You are still a member. Set up an authenticator app or a passkey on that screen and everything opens up immediately. Your other organizations are unaffected.
Too many attempts#
To stop passwords being guessed, UnitX slows down sign-in after a few wrong attempts and then pauses it for a while:
- After three failures, each answer takes a little longer.
- After 10 failed attempts on one account within 15 minutes, password sign-in to that account is paused for 15 minutes.
- After 20 failures from one network within 15 minutes, sign-in from that network is paused for 15 minutes.
While paused you’ll see “Too many attempts. Try again in about N minutes.” (or “Too many attempts from here. Wait a few minutes and try again.”). Wait, or reset your password. Passkey sign-in and single sign-on are not affected by a paused account.
Messages you might see#
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Invalid email or password | Check both and try again. For security, the same message is shown whether the address has no account, the password is wrong, or the account can’t sign in with a password. |
| This domain requires single sign-on… | Sign in through your company’s identity provider. |
| That code has already been used. Wait for the next one. | Wait for your authenticator app to show a new code. |
| That key was not recognised | The passkey isn’t registered to a UnitX account. Use another sign-in method. |
| Too many attempts… | Wait the time shown, or reset your password. |
Signing out#
Open the account menu (your avatar at the top right) and choose Log out. To sign out other devices, see Sessions and login history.
Shared computers
Always log out on a shared computer. Logging out clears everything the app had loaded, so the next person can’t see your data.
Frequently asked questions#
I don’t see “Sign in with a passkey”.
Your browser doesn’t support passkeys. Use a current version of Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox, or sign in with your password.
I lost my phone and can’t get a code.
Enter one of your recovery codes in the Authentication code field, or use a passkey if you have one. If you have neither, contact an Owner or Admin of your organization.
I signed in but landed on the organization setup screen.
Your account doesn’t belong to an organization yet. Create one, or ask to be invited using the email address you signed in with.
